We need your support : SABC : Tseleng and Athletics

Posted on Thursday, February 18, 2010 in Support Athletics in SA

Hi fellow athletes, runners, joggers and friends thereof

Tseleng a sporting program on SABC has chosen of late to showcase soccer and the ‘2010’, therefore leaving our sport a little out on the cold.

We, as interest parties need to exert some pressure on the SABC through a ‘public demand’, to relook at their target audiences and also take us into account.

Failing pressure we may be forgotten?

Please email to Joe Visagie  visagiejc@sabc.co.za with your message of support, to have Athletics featured.

Happy running… and may all your goals be achieved.

Regards

Kevin

Great event, well supported by the local runners.  Nice cool Durban weather for a change, makes it much more pleasant to be out there.

Support for the Slow Athletes

Posted on Monday, November 9, 2009 in General Comments

All athletes pay the same to enter an event.  When the slow, who are out there in the elements for longer than all else get to the support tables, the refreshments, particularly water is finished.  Event organisers you need to look at this… it is a poor showing.

This happens time and again, what is the solution… mandatory preentry so the organisers know how many to cater for???

With +30 deg heat and no water  those doing the Bluff half on Sunday 8/11 suffered.

Thanks to Bluff AC for all else that was done on the day, but a big shortcomming was the water en-route

The wonder of democracy and freedom of speech

Posted on Monday, November 9, 2009 in Concerned Athletes Group on Facebook

The wonder of democracy and freedom of speech is not being exercised in this country – in fact it is being exorcised.

We MUST speak out and expose the wrong and the wrong doers.

Having said that – we have to temper our anger with understanding of the “Peter Principle”.

“South Africa’s Olympic governing body has suspended the president and board of Athletics South Africa (ASA) over their handling of 800m world champion Caster Semenya’s gender verification tests.

The South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (Sascoc) announced on Thursday that ASA President Leonard Chuene and the ASA board would be “suspended with immediate effect pending the outcome of a disciplinary investigation and further action.

“The suspended individuals will appear before a disciplinary enquiry to answer charges of bringing ASA, the sport of athletics, Sascoc and sport in general into disrepute,” the statement said.

Sascoc said it was also considering “taking appropriate action against the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) for its disregard of Ms Semenya’s rights to privacy.”

Semenya, 18, destroyed the field to take the women’s 800 world title in Berlin in August in the fastest time of the year.

The IAAF had already begun a gender verification process prior to the race but Semenya was allowed to compete pending the outcome of the tests.

It was subsequently disclosed that ASA conducted gender verification tests on Semenya in South Africa before she competed in Berlin. ASA President Leonard Chuene admitted lying about the tests, saying he had wanted to protect the athlete’s privacy.

No decision on the tests is expected until later this month but the IAAF has declined to comment on a report in Australia’s Daily Telegraph newspaper in September which said Semenya had both male and female sexual characteristics.’

There are a number of events being cancelled in KZN – why is this so?  What action is being taken by the authorities to assist with these events and allowing us to have unbroken weekend participation.

What are your thoughts?
